The Kingdom of Saguenay: This was the name given to this vast territory by the famous French explorer, Jacques Cartier during his second voyage to the New World in 1535. This extensive geographical area was destined to serve as the background for the development of a forest Empire, a center for the smelting of aluminium and a page of the Human story.


Land of the Montagnais, fur trading center and a majestic forest of tall trees, this is what brought the 1st businessmen and developers to the area. The wealth of the forest and the Saguenay River were what drew the first pioneers to the territory and lead to the first farms and villages. As the years passed the Saguenay, Lake St. John Region became one of the fastest growing regions in the province of Quebec.
